Walking Club

Commissioner Green is proud to announce that we are back on track with the help of the Parks and Recreation Department and Baptist Health!

Join us every Monday evening, weather permitting, at 6 PM on the nature path at Flamingo West Park West. We look forward to seeing you while getting some steps in!

Some interesting walking facts:
  • Walking may reduce your risk for developing a cold or the flu.
  • One study tracked 1,000 adults during flu season. Those who walked at a moderate pace for 30 to 45 minutes a day had 43 percent fewer sick days and fewer upper respiratory tract infections overall.
  • Their symptoms were also lessened if they did get sick. That was compared to adults in the study who were sedentary.
  • Try to get in a daily walk to experience these benefits.
  • Walking for 30 minutes a day or more on most days of the week is a great way to improve or maintain your overall health.
  • If you can’t manage 30 minutes a day, remember ‘even a little is good, but more is better’.
  • Walking with others can turn exercise into an enjoyable social occasion.
  • See your doctor for a medical check-up before embarking on any new fitness program, particularly if you are aged over 40 years, are overweight or haven’t exercised in a long time.
