Monitoring Hurricane Milton Update #4 - Broward County Under Tropical Storm Warning

The City of Cooper City has made operational changes as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida's west coast. As of the 5 PM Advisory on October 8, a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Broward County. This means sustained winds of 39 to 73 miles per hour or higher are expected in 36 hours or less. At this time, you should have necessary supplies and all preparations should be nearing completion in case our area experiences any significant impacts.
Periods of heavy rainfall will continue to impact South Florida through Wednesday, October 9 ahead of Hurricane Milton's predicted landfall along the west coast of Florida. A Flood Watch remains in place for all of South Florida through 8 AM Thursday (October 10).
City Operations
City Hall, the Community Center, and Pool and Tennis Center will be closed on Wednesday, October 9 in anticipation of dangerous weather conditions. The City anticipates resuming normal operations on Thursday, October 10 pending weather conditions.
City Commission Regular Meeting
The City Commission Regular Meeting on October 8, will proceed as scheduled at 6:30 PM at City Hall located at 9090 SW 50 Place.
Broward County Public Schools
Schools and District offices will be closed on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10. Schools and District offices are expected to resume normal operations on Friday, October 11.
District Water Bodies
Our Utilities Department works with the South Florida Water Management District and Central Broward Water Control District to ensure that water levels for respective canals and water bodies are kept at proper levels in anticipation of tropical systems. Furthermore, City staff and a contractor work year-round to clear debris from storm drains. If you have questions or have concerns about a storm drain, please call 954-434-5519.
Parks and Sports Complexes
All Cooper City parks and sports complexes are closed and will not reopen until Thursday, October 10 at 8 AM. The length of this closure is subject to change pending weather conditions. City staff has informed the Optimist of this closure. If you or your child participate in Optimist programs, please follow Optimist updates on further cancellations throughout the week.
Solid Waste Services
Garbage and recycling collection services remain on a regular schedule. However, the schedule is subject to change due to anticipated wind speeds. Updates to garbage and recycling collection services will be provided via the City's website, social media channels, and Alert Cooper City. Household hazardous waste drop-off at Wheelabrator on October 12 will take place as scheduled.
