City Commission Approves Closure of Forest Lake Dog Park

The City Commission has voted to permanently close Forest Lake Dog Park, which is located at 5700 SW 113th Avenue.

The dog park's permanent closure will become effective on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.  The City Commission voted on the closure following several months of discussion and listening to residents who advocated for and those who opposed the dog park's current location.

During the June 14, 2022 City Commission Regular Meeting, our Public Works Department provided a presentation on potential locations for a new dog park.  At this time, there is no consensus on the most suitable location for a dog park that can serve Cooper City residents' needs.  However, City staff is in discussion with Broward County and investigating the potential for a new dog park at Brian Piccolo County Park.

Any potential plan for a new dog park will need to be brought forward for City Commission approval and will provide the public with an opportunity to speak on the matter.

The City reminds residents that two dog parks will continue to be available to all Cooper City residents.  The dog parks are located within Christie Schafale Park and Monterra.  See more information on all City parks and dog parks.
