Cooper City Welcomes New District Fire Chief
District Fire Chief Gary Harrington has taken the helm at BSO Fire District 28 in Cooper City. Mr. Harrington brings nearly 40 years of expertise in the fire service to Cooper City. He has extensive technical experience in the application of emergency medical care, prevention, control and suppression of fire, and response to natural and man-made disasters. Chief Harrington has also provided wide-ranging leadership and has served as a mentor to young officers.
He most recently worked for the Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Emergency Services’ Fire Prevention Bureau Dania Beach and Port Everglades districts. Prior to working with BSO, Chief Harrington rose through the ranks to Battalion Chief in Fire Operations for the Miramar Fire Rescue Department, where he served from 1983 through 2013.
“Gary Harrington’s proven experience and leadership become immediate assets to the City," said City Manager Joseph Napoli. "The knowledge he has gained by serving in multiple roles in the fire rescue service and through the multiple certifications he has earned, will undoubtedly serve our City well in a wide-array of potential emergencies."
Among the top priorities related to fire services, the City looks forward to working with Chief Harrington in improving fire emergency response times and purchasing new fire apparatus.
