City Commission Regular Meeting Brief for May 23, 2023

City Commission Approved Ordinance 23-13 on Second Reading

The City Commission passed and approved the second reading of Ordinance 23-13, providing updates to the City’s floodplain regulations, compliant with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The City participates in FEMA’s Community Rating System (CRS), a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum program requirements to help reduce flood risks in Cooper City. The City maintains a CRS rating Class 6 rating, making residents who purchase the NFIP flood insurance eligible for premium discounts of 20%.

City Commission Approves Ordinance 23-14 on First Reading

The City Commission passed and approved on first reading Ordinance 23-14, which will now allow the use of artificial turf in the side and rear yards. A Building Permit will be required prior to installation. 

City Commission Approved Motion to Adopt the Southeast Florida Local and Tribal Government Climate Action Pledge

The City Commission approved a motion to adopt the Southeast Florida Local and Tribal Government Climate Action Pledge. This pledge agrees to jointly advance strategic climate adaption and mitigation efforts and advancing implementation of the Regional Climate Action Plan through adopting the Southeast Florida Climate Action Pledge.

City Commission Approved Agreement with Towing Company

The City Commission approved to award the towing service agreement to A Superior Towing Company.

City Commission Approved Agreement with Video Streaming Services Company

The City Commission approved the execution of an agreement with Granicus, LLC for video streaming services.

City Commission Approves Resolution 23-7

The City Commission passed Resolution 23-7, approving and authorizing the proper City officials to execute and file the articles of incorporation and by-laws for the Cooper City Police Crime Watch, Inc.

City Commission Approves Resolution 23-9

The City Commission passed and approved Resolution 23-9, establishing a partial release of lien fee in the amount of $495.50.

City Commission Approves Ordinance 23-15 on First Reading

The City Commission passed and approved the first reading of Ordinance 23-15, providing for additional amendments in the referenced sections within Chapter 2, Article X to the procurement code.
