Cooper City Utilities Launches Water Service Replacement Project in Flamingo Lakes Townhomes
Cooper City's Utilities Department commenced a water service line replacement capital project on September 10, 2024 in the Flamingo Lakes Townhomes neighborhood. City staff has been in communication with the homeowners association and property management company to provide advanced notice of the project.
During the scheduled work, contractors will be excavating in the roadways, parking areas, and up to water meter boxes. There will be temporary service interruption when the new water services are connected to each individual's property for approximately fifteen minutes. Signage will be posted to inform residents of the work that will be taking place in their respective areas. Vehicles will need to be temporarily moved from the project areas to complete the service replacements, beginning with properties along Lake Loop Road.
Background on this Project
During the April 9, 2024 Regular Meeting, the City Commission approved the issuance of a purchase order to Miller Pipeline, LLC., for the Flamingo Gardens water service line replacement, utilizing the previously executed piggyback agreement between the City and the contractor from the City of Ocala contract CIP/220762, in the amount not to exceed $322,715.00.
The Flamingo Lakes Townhomes neighborhood, comprising approximately 174 multifamily residential units situated south of SW 51st Street and east of Flamingo Road in Cooper City, has been grappling with a series of water service leaks and pipe breaks attributed to aging infrastructure. To address this issue, the City issued a purchase order to Chen Moore and Associates for the design of water service line replacements. Since November 2021, there have been over 55 leaks in the neighborhood, necessitating repairs by the City's staff. This ongoing situation is significantly affecting our Utilities Department's operational efficiency, diverting essential resources away from crucial infrastructure maintenance and disrupting the schedules of concurrent projects. Moreover, many of these leaks occur outside of regular working hours, leading to increased overtime costs.
