Monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole: Public Advisory #3

A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch remain in effect for Broward County, as we monitor Tropical Storm Nicole. Coastal Broward County is under a Storm Surge Watch.

The aforementioned advisories mean tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area and hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area. The Storm Surge Watch, for coastal Broward, means there is the possibility of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, in the next 48 hours.

Nicole is already producing heavy rainfall across our area and will continue to do so into Thursday across the Florida Peninsula. Flash and urban flooding will be possible across portions of Florida. Tropical Storm Nicole's sustained winds are near 70 mph with higher gusts. Nicole is expected to strengthen today, forecast to become a hurricane over the northwestern Bahamas, and remain a hurricane when it approaches the east coast of Florida.

Tropical Storm Nicole is a large tropical cyclone with tropical-storm-force winds extending outward up to 460 miles from the center. While our area is not within the current cone of concern, we are anticipating periods of heavy rain and potentially dangerous winds through the overnight hours and into tomorrow.
