2024 Election Information

The City of Cooper City will hold a Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The election is held on the same date as the November General Election. The Commission Seats are staggered so that the entire Commission is not up for re-election at once. The purpose of this Municipal Election is to elect a Mayor, and Commissioner for Seats 3 & 4, for a four-year term of office ending in November 2028. These seats are currently held by Mayor Greg Ross, Commissioner Jeff Green, and Commissioner Ryan C. Shrouder.

Pursuant to Section 2-23 of the Cooper City Code, to qualify to run for an open Commission seat, a person must have resided continuously within the City for at least one (1) year preceding the date of filing.

The City of Cooper City is governed by the City Commission consisting of five (5) members. The Mayor and Commissioners are elected at-large by a plurality vote, meaning the candidate with the highest number of votes wins the seat. City Elections are nonpartisan; i.e. candidates do not run as members of a particular party, and their individual party affiliations are not relevant to their position in City Government.

Pursuant to the City Charter, Elected officials serve for terms of (4) years and until their respective successors are elected and sworn in.

Elections are conducted in accordance with the provisions of Title IX, Florida Statutes, Electors and Elections (Chapters 97-106). For further information, publications and forms, please visit the Florida Division of Elections Web site or call the City Clerk's office at (954) 434-4300.
