FPL Projects
Florida Power & Light is conducting storm hardening projects within Cooper City limits. Both initiatives, focusing on FPL's infrastructure, work to enhance the reliability and resiliency of its power grid in our community.
When outages occur, we know Cooper City residents and business owners want and need information on when their power will be restored. FPL will provide updated restoration time estimates and other progress reports via mobile if a storm strikes.

Pole Hardening Project
FPL expanded this project, which includes a section of Stirling Road, to included replacing and setting 13 new concrete poles along SW 90th Avenue, from Stirling Road to SW 55th Street. FPL conducted the pole installations along SW 90th Avenue on March 24th and March 25th.
Project Information Related to Stirling Road:
- Work commenced on February 27, 2025.
- Wooden power poles are being replaced with new concrete poles and wire transfers along Stirling Road, between SW 90th Avenue and University Drive.
- This work requires the closure of one eastbound lane on Stirling Road during the day time to transfer wires and the closure of two eastbound lanes on Stirling Road, from SW 90th Avenue to S. Pine Island Road on Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th during night hours between 9 PM and 5 AM to set poles.
Storm Secure Underground Project Program
The Storm Secure Underground Program (SSUP) is one of the many ways FPL is enhancing the resiliency of its grid and the reliability of the service delivered to customers. By replacing overhead neighborhood power lines with more reliable underground lines, FPL is working to avoid the leading cause of power outages – trees and vegetation coming into contact with overhead lines.
The program is kicking off its first phase in Cooper City. Please see the location for this first phase.
Project information:
- Unless there is an emergency, a minimum of seven (7) days prior notice is required before any construction work can begin. In all cases, FPL and its contractor must provide door hangers at each house or business with the contact person's name and phone number.
- Where construction equipment, trucks and personnel cross over swales, sidewalks, catch basins, aprons, private yards, etc. all restoration work must be complete to the City's satisfaction. FPL and its contractor must ensure that slopes and conditions of materials are restored to equal or better condition than before construction started.
- This project will require new transformers to be placed on certain private property behind sidewalks. Select residents should have granted easement rights to FPL for these new transformers.
