ThorGuard Lightning Prediction System & Policy
Cooper City has installed the ThorGuard lightning prediction system at our three sport complexes, the Cooper City Pool & Tennis Center and at Pioneer Middle School. The ThorGuard system is designed to predict lightning in your local area BEFORE lightning strikes. When the ThorGuard warning system sounds a 15 second horn blast, the outdoor facility must be cleared of all patrons as soon as practical. All persons must remain inside buildings or vehicles. During this period, a strobe light on top of the building will light up and will continue to operate until the weather clears. Three short horn blasts will signal the “all clear” and all patrons can resume their activities.
Flamingo West Park has the ThorMobile lightning prediction system. By clicking on the ThorMobile link below you will have real-time access to the ThorGuard lightning prediction system at Flamingo West Park. The web-based product allows you to view the prediction data, National Weather Service (NWS) local radar and NWS severe weather warnings. This is different than an app, which must be downloaded to each device. Simply access the web address and view the real-time report.
